Personal audience with Pope Benedict XVI

Following a commission for the Pontifical Institute of Santa Maria dell’Anima in Rome, Flörl was granted a personal audience with Pope Benedict XVI in 2012. During this encounter, he portrayed the Pope, capturing a moment of rare proximity between artist and pontiff.

The commission resulted in the creation of two reliefs for the institute’s library, as well as the installation of an altar within Santa Maria dell’Anima, further embedding Flörl’s work within a historic and spiritual context at the heart of Rome.

The works reflect his characteristic reduction of form and his ability to translate presence and dignity into sculptural language.

This project stands as a testament to Flörl’s recognition beyond Austria and underlines the atelier’s continued connection to cultural and ecclesiastical institutions of international relevance.
