Sculptures begin with physical presence.
Weight, surface, scale and material define encounters that cannot entirely be reproduced through images. And yet, today, the first encounters with works often happen elsewhere.
On a screen.
Through an image.
Within an editorial context.
The question therefore is not simply how sculptures can be documented, but how their character can be translated without reducing them to images.
This question has become increasingly relevant as Atelier Flörl begins opening its works to new audiences. Our ongoing collaboration with Arttyco is part of this process.
Through a curated sequence of works, materials and stories, the collaboration approaches the works not as a fixed retrospective, but as something that can be continuously re-read and placed into new contexts.
At the same time, these new contexts are not limited to the digital space.
This autumn, Atelier Flörl will travel to Paris during Art Basel Paris and Design Miami Paris — entering a wider conversation around contemporary art, design, material and collecting.
The journey marks another step in opening the atelier beyond its physical location in Tyrol.
Not through a change in the works themselves, but through new encounters, new conversations and new surroundings.
The physical works remain unchanged.
Their surroundings do not.
And perhaps this is where new encounters with sculptures begin.
