Mother Earth

In May 2008, Mother Earth was completed — one of the most monumental and technically demanding works by Hubert Flörl.

Carved from a single, exceptional block of Carrara marble sourced in Pietrasanta, the sculpture originates from a material of rare scale and quality. Initially weighing over 20 tons, it was shaped through more than 2,000 hours of precise handcraft, gradually revealing its organic, flowing form. Today, the work weighs approximately 18 tons and rises over 5.30 meters in height.

Mother Earth embodies a synthesis of mass and movement — an abstract yet deeply human presence that reflects both strength and fragility. The inherent energy of the stone remains visible, refined into a form that appears almost breathing.

For this work, Hubert Flörl was awarded the Theodor Körner Prize, recognizing both its artistic significance and the exceptional level of craftsmanship involved.
