“The Twelve Apostles and Saint Barbara” was inaugurated at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna by the Apostolic Nuncio to Austria, Archbishop Peter Stephan Zurbriggen, alongside Cardinal Christoph Schönborn and Dompfarrer Toni Faber.
The installation is situated in the late Gothic Barbara Chapel, where previously vacant pedestal bases along the buttresses are now occupied by sculptural works.
For this context, Prof. Mag. Hubert Josef Flörl developed a cycle of the Twelve Apostles in plaster, defined by a reduced, contemplative formal language and their traditional attributes. The ensemble is complemented by a 1.20-metre bronze sculpture of Saint Barbara.
The works are currently presented in this state. The Apostles are intended to be realised in bronze, with the necessary preparations underway.
